Have a .it Domain? What to Review Before November 23, 2026

Have a .it domain? Before your next contact update, take a moment to check who holds it and whether their details are correct. From November 23, 2026, the way .it domains record contact information changes. Whether you use yours for a personal project or a business, we can help you understand what to review without turning it into a technical task.

What changes for you?

The official .it announcement sets November 23 as the start date. The fax field disappears, separate administrative and technical contact roles are being retired, and registration can use the holder's contact alone. Where both name and organization are supplied, they must contain the same name. For you, the useful starting point is an accurate holder record.

Start with who holds your domain

The holder is the person or entity recorded as holding the domain. That is not necessarily whoever pays the bill, answers support emails, or looks after your website. If your business uses the domain, check whether the record actually names the business or a person who helped register it.

For example, a shop's domain may have been registered years ago by its founder. Before replacing that person's name with the company name, ask us to review the situation. Correcting a spelling mistake and changing the holder are different requests; we can help you identify which one you need.

Your company name or your personal name?

For a company or another entity, use its full legal name, not the personal name of an employee who handles the account. You may see the English labels Name and Organization in a form: they mean name and organization. In this holder record, both identify the company itself, not a company plus a separate contact person.

For an individual, use your full personal name. Organization is optional for individuals and required for companies and other entities. If a form asks you, as an individual, to complete both fields, repeat your full name in both; you do not need to invent a business name.

These are examples of how to enter a name, not a reason to change ownership. If the record currently mixes your company name with an employee's name, send us your question before replacing either. Keep the legal name consistent with your company records, rather than switching between a trading name and an abbreviation.

Already have a .it domain? Review these details

Open your domain details in your account, or ask us for help finding the holder information. Work from that record rather than an old invoice or a website screenshot. If you have several domains, start with the one you want to update and note any details you are unsure about.

  • Confirm the holder's full personal name or the entity's legal name.
  • Check the postal address, country and telephone number for outdated details.
  • Check that the contact email is one you can still access.
  • Note any difference between the recorded holder and the person or company you expected.

Keep that mailbox available for confirmations and questions about your request. If it belonged to someone who has left your business, tell us so we can review the appropriate next step. You can also use our WHOIS tool to view public information, but your account record is the place to start when checking your contact details.

  1. Confirm who holds the domain.
  2. Review the holder's details and contact email.
  3. Ask SoxDomains about any correction or change you need.

Planning to register a new .it?

Decide whether you will register personally or in your company's name before completing the order. Have the corresponding full name, address and accessible email ready. If someone is helping you with the purchase, make sure the holder details identify you or your company as intended, rather than the person filling in the form.

Review our .it registration requirements as well. A simpler contact record does not mean every applicant qualifies. If you are unsure about your situation, ask us before placing the order so we can clarify what applies to you.

Keep contact details separate from website changes

This is a contact-information update, not a reason to buy your domain again or move your website. You do not need to change DNS, email hosting or web hosting simply because of these contact changes. If you also want to change who can manage the account, our domain access guide explains that separate question.

Review your .it with us

Tell us your domain name, whether the holder should be an individual or an entity, and what you want to check. We can help you confirm the details and clarify the request through our domain management service. For a new project, visit our .it domain page and bring us any questions before registering.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to register my existing .it again?

No. These contact changes are not a new domain purchase. Review your holder details and ask us about any correction you need.

Can I register as an individual without a company?

Yes, if you meet the .it requirements. Use your full personal name. Organization is optional for individuals; if the form asks for both fields, repeat that full name.

Which name should I use for a company domain?

Use the company's full legal name in both holder name fields, not an employee's personal name. First confirm that the company is the actual holder.

What if I cannot access the contact email?

Contact us with the domain name and explain the situation. We can review how to update the details for your case, rather than relying on a mailbox you no longer control.
